Dr. Peter Ferraro woke up in pain. A serious car accident-of the ear splitting, frame-bending variety that nightmares and bone-chilling action movie sequences are made of-had left him with a herniated disc in his lower vertebrae and a severe pain in his back that could kindly be described as wretched. Dr. Ferraro, then and now, is a Chiropractic Physician, and no one knew better than he that chiropractics, the now century old discipline, was not going to be helpful in this instance. Dr. Ferraro had a herniated disc. The standard chiropractic approach of manipulation of the spine wasn’t going to address this problem. Traditional medicine seemed to be necessary, but Dr. Ferraro's naturally conservative thinking about jumping the gun on surgery or other invasive practice surged him to proceed cautiously. He started with pain medication. It lessened, but did not solve the problem, and the shots involved a degree of pain and discomfort in and of themselves. He moved on to physical therapy, a painfully slow process that gave him moderate relief. To experience it first hand is the profound, residual effect of chronic back pain. It's a perpetual dark cloud that can subtly and progressively degrade the quality of life. It can insidiously affect your mood, your sex life, your friendships, and your work. Surgery-a last resort but the next logical step for him-was not an option: He knew it would take him off his feet and out of work for months possibly. He also knew that surgery has been helpful in only one in every one-hundred cases of low back pain. Some surgery can even result in permanently debilitating conditions. Dr. Ferraro eventually did heal himself. Through exhaustive research, he ultimately discovered a sophisticated, technology based therapy-now commonly referred to as IDD Therapy® which he tried. Within four weeks, he was back on his feet, back to work, and a sworn convert to this thoughtful, non invasive, and innovative approach. Eight years later, Dr. Ferraro is considered to be one of the foremost practitioners of IDD Therapy in the country.
